How is the structure around a given atom related to repulsion between valence electron pairs on the atom involved

    Valence electron pairs are the total sum of lone pairs and bond pairs in the molecule. The electrons possess negative charge on them. They repel each other due to the presence of same charge. The lone pairs repel other electrons strongly, which are present around the central atom.
