How does volcanic activity affect climate are these effects examples of short term or long term climate change

It can destroy a community which would make it dense and difficult to survive in and then stimulate a pioneer community starting with moss and ferns. which will start a new little ecosystem. So, these effects would be long term, though it can effect the climate in many different ways.
