Was the United State's entry into imperialism a positive or negative event for the countries we affected? Why?

If you look back in history, we did a lot of damage to other countries through imperialism. This is due to claiming land and resources that weren't actually ours and treating the people of the lands as inferior. This hurt many countries and it was our fault, as well as many european countries faults.
