If you add the lengths (in inches) of all the fish in a tank, there should be at least one gallon of water for each inch. Sam has five fish of the following lengths: 1 1/4in, 1 1/2in, 1 5/8in, 1 3/4in, and 1 7/8in. What is the minimum amount of water his fish tank should contain?

    Here is how to solve this:

    1 - 11/4 + 11/2 = 1/2ft. 1 5/8 + 1 3/4 + 1 7/8 = 5 1/4in.

    2. 1/2 ft = 6in.

    3. 6in + 5 1/4 in = 11 1/4

    4. there should be at least 11 gallons of water.
