Sixty eight student are separated into two groups. the first is 3 times as large as the second. how many are in each group

    Answer: first 51 second 17

    x=second group, 3x=first group

    3x+x=68

    4x=68

    x=17

    3x=3*17=51

    68 = 3x + x

    68 = 4x

    x = 17

    3x = 51
