    Substract 6 to both sides and you get 36 = - 2d then you use the multiplicative inverse and d=-18.

    42 = - 2d + 6

    Subtract 6 from both sides

    36 = - 2d

    Divide - 2 on both sides

    Final Answer: - 18 = d
