The formula for the potential energy of a spring is U = (1/2) kx^2. So you set U equal to 200 J, k equal to 1000 N/m, and solve for x.

Rearranging, the equation you have to solve is x = (2U/k) ^ (1/2). So you'll get that x has to be equal to 0.632 m.
