Imagine that you had to gather a random sample of the student body at your school. how would you acquire a list of the population

Being the student that I am, and by that i mean having good relations with the staff, I would probably just go to our assistant principal and ask him for a copy of the student body. Or I would send him an Email which would be even easier.
