    Around 1200 BCE, the citizens of the Khmer Empire built the Angkor Wat temple under the orders of King Suryavarman II in their capital city.

    The purpose of the project was to create offerings to the Gods and to celebrate the economic and political success that the kingdom experienced for the last centuries (they are considered as the most prosperous kingdom in Cambodian history).
