The brief history of psychology presented in this chapter focuses on the development of psychology in the United States. Europe and the United States are the only places where psychology is studied. Choose two non-North American and non-European countries, and investigate what psychology looks like in those countries. Do they have similar themes to those that we see in the United States? Are there differences in their approach compared to what is discussed in this text? Why do you think psychology might differ across cultures?

United Arab Emirates and North Korea

    Explanation:

Those are countries that definitely have not similar themes in the United States, but have similarities. First if we study the United Arab Emirates we can find that this country is very religious country, where the civil law and the religious law are mixed. This country has expanded so much and gotten more big, but not its psychology area, despitethe population boom, there are concerns that mental health services and the general field of psychology have not matched the country's expansion, with a resulting increase in the level of unmet need. So because of that the psychology of the society is so much different from North American or European values, the society moves towards dividing man and woman and discriminating the woman, but that society seems to be ok with that and no political movements make complains there. The society of UAE seems to be influenced too much for religion, and that would make a condition to their behavior. The majority of the Psychologist in UAE have studied on Europe and USA and have undergone a Western Model of training. Even if its more common to have psychologist in UAE, nowadays is in its initial phase and still evolving trying to match western and eastern values.

PsychoIn the other way we have China: China is not a democracy either, but it gives at least a better role model to women. Psychology there was a mystery on the years of Mao Zedong but is changing now with China expansion. Its not new that China is one the most expansive economies on the world, and with that science gets more money and more resources. For example China has hosted on 2004 the International Congress of Psychology. The history of China's Psychology has started on 1917 when China has open their first psychological lab in Beijing. Many Chinese psychologist are now studying in Europe and USA to bring tools to their own culture.

Psychology differs across cultures because the human behavior is directly influenced by it owns circumstances. As Ortega y Gasset said, "Its me and my circumstances and context". That why so many countries give psychology different approaches
