The farmers used crop irrigation to produce a food surplus for the Egyptians to eat and save for their families. The artisans would make pottery for the community. The scribes would read and write records.

The farmers had the lowest status on the Egyptian social pyramid. The scribes and artisans were in the middle status. Most of the people in Egypt were farmers. This was important so that everyone was well fed. Artisans were important because no one knew how to make pottery as well as them. Scribes were known for keeping letters and writing. That is why each position was very important.
