Predict if a reaction would occur when solutions of 0.1 M Al (NO3) 3 and 0.1 M KI are combined. Explain your reasoning, and, if you predict a reaction will occur, include the net ionic equation for the reaction.

    The reaction is impossible

    Explanation:

    Potassium is above aluminum in the electrochemical series hence it cannot be displaced by aluminum in a double decomposition reaction.

    A double decomposition (often shown by a net ionic equation) is possible if and only if the reaction leads to the formation of an insoluble precipitate.

    Such a reaction cannot occur here because the redox potential of potassium is far more negative than that of aluminum hence the reaction is impossible.
