Minnesota played an important role against slavery. Before Minnesota became a state there were two abolitionist that influenced many people: the clergyman, Reverend Henry M. Michols and Mrs. Jane Grey Swisshelm. The first one gave many speeches against slavery and the second wrote many articles in the newspaper The spirit of Liberty against slavery. There were people in favor of slavery but they were waned by the two abolitionist mentioned before.
